Small Moments, Big Impact: Emily Crawford’s Moment of Impact at Credera

Credera Team

We all have significant moments in our lives—meaningful experiences that shape us and mold our careers. These moments stand out in our memories. They impact us; and over time, they define us.

These moments don’t always start as something that appears significant. It can be the way someone treats you, a small act of kindness, or even an apology. A defining moment can happen in the blink of an eye.

But small moments can create a big impact—and it’s the collection of these small moments that truly define a culture.

Moments of Impact at Credera

“Culture isn’t just one aspect of the game, it is the game.” – Louis Grestner, Former CEO of IBM

How does a company measure and explain their culture? Culture is an intangible. It can’t be seen or touched. Yet it impacts everything about a team member’s experience. And at Credera, we believe it’s what sets us apart.

As Credera expands our global presence, we remain passionately focused on the fabric of our boutique culture and are excited to share the real stories of our people and their moments of impact. We're hoping to showcase what makes this global boutique firm so special through the stories of our people, the most trustworthy source. These moments have defined our culture and will continue to keep us extraordinary, even as we grow.

We’re committed to continuing to forge strong connections between our people, clients, and communities by highlighting the moments that matter the most.

Don’t just take our word for it: Hear it from Emily.

Emily’s Story

Emily Crawford joined Credera as a graduate from Baylor University. This was her first job out of college, and she was anxious to jump in and do a good job.

A few months in, Emily and her husband, Drew, went out of town to be with family for the holidays. While they were gone, she got a call from their apartment complex letting her know their apartment had caught on fire and subsequently flooded from the sprinklers. Emily and Drew took the next plane home to get back and survey the damage.

Boarding the flight home, she remembers thinking, “I need to send a note to my boss! I don’t know how this will affect work on Monday and she needs as much heads up as possible if I’m going to be out.”

So Emily sent her manager a text. She said something like, “My house caught on fire, so I’m so sorry but I don’t know if I’ll make it to work on Monday. But don’t worry, I grabbed my work computer.”

The response from her team was a moment that defined her. She learned:

  1. Her project director cared much more about her wellbeing than the fact that her work computer was safe.

  2. Her team rallied around her more than she could have imagined, covered her work, took care of the client, and took care of Emily herself. They even contributed to a group gift card to take her shopping for a new wardrobe.

In Emily’s words:

“It’s not necessarily these specific actions, but rather the overall support that I felt at that time, and still do today. It’s always made an impact on me. It’s why I’m still here six years later. And the culture here still shapes the way I lead today, now as a senior manager at Credera. I want my teams to feel supported. I want them to do great client work, yes, but I need them to know I care about them as people more, and I’m so invested in seeing them succeed, both inside and outside of work. That’s what makes Credera such a great community.”
