Life Hack: I use Red Vines as the straw in my sodas at the movies

Now Playing: New Amsterdam, a great new show with lots of great lessons for young leaders

Office Music Playlist: Come With Me Now by the Kongos

Personal Values: Good, better, best. Never let it rest until your good is your better and your better is your best. This is what I instilled into my two sons as they were growing up.

Favorite Credera Memory + Client Experience Highlight: One of my favorite Credera memories is also one of my favorite client highlights. Our client partnered with Facebook to enhance Facebook’s online service offerings and they wanted a team that was fast and really good. We were actually faster than expected and they could not believe how good our team was. It was a great success and an effort that I am very proud of.

Best Advice You’ve Received: I’ve been given a lot of great advice personally and professionally but one that I find I rely on a lot is “Don’t stress…until you have to.” 80% of the things we stress about never come to pass.

Favorite App: IFTTT (If This Then That)  I’ve set up some commands on IFTTT to turn on lights at certain times of the day. It’s also fun to tell our Google Home to “clean the floors” and have it turn on our Roomba as we leave the house.

Life Hack: Fasting. Not only are there health benefits, it’s a huge energy and time saver.

Favorite Tech Tool: Joule. It’s a sous vide machine that cooks your food to the perfect temperature using a water bath. I can monitor the readiness of my food through the app on my phone.

Favorite BookHow to be Like Walt by Pat Williams is one of my favorites. It’s an insightful read about the man behind the mouse ears who inspires us to dream big and never grow up.

Passions Outside of Work: I do a lot of woodworking and I love coaching and watching our boys play sports. I am that dad who would coach, videotape his kid from the sideline, and watch their videos over and over again.

Personal Value: Perseverance. My wife and I always encourage our boys to push through challenges. Success is a lousy teacher.

Favorite Credera MemoryCredera Service Day 2017 when we partnered with Habitat for Humanity. We invested time, money, and physical labor to help one family realize their dream of calling a place home.

Best Advice You’ve Received: Be grateful. It’s impossible to feel sad or have any negative feeling when you’re grateful. If you’re in the midst of a difficult situation, look for something to be grateful for.

Now Playing: The West Wing

Favorite Book: The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

Passions Outside of Work: Combining user-centered design and civic engagement, throwing art parties, and thinking up crazy ideas/”what ifs” with people.

Personal Goals: Being at the right place, at the right time, to do the right thing.

Favorite Credera Memory: I can’t decide on one, so here’s my most recent team’s collective favorite memory: I spilled a bowlful of yogurt on Jake Carter’s shoes, our team room carpet, another team member’s shoes, and my shoes. I was trying to clear off our team’s workspace to make room for Jake to sit but managed to feed my breakfast to the floor instead (I knocked my yogurt off the table). Our team collectively and silently gazed at the aftermath. I immediately said, “I can fix this.” Everyone burst out laughing. And I fixed it!–via paper towels and Clorox wipes.

Client Experience Highlight: Being able to see a project from start to finish was an incredible experience as a year one consultant. Our team was building a web app that would make our clients’ lives easier (we consolidated several features onto a single, user-friendly interface). I conducted user testing and incorporated our clients’ enthusiastic feedback every step of the way. When I on-boarded our clients onto the app, they all had such huge smiles on their faces and thanked our team profusely. Being able to witness the positive impact of our work on real people was a humbling experience.
