The Value of Friendship at Work

The Value of Friendship at Work

Muhammed Ali once said, “If you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.” We have learned “life at Credera” would not exist without the life that flows out of authentic friendships in the workplace.

So what do friendships at Credera look like? Grace Hong’s story is a fun example.

Grace joined our Experience Design (XD) Practice in October of 2013. Over the past three years, she has grown close with her team.

“What I love about my team members is that they have become part of my family,” Grace says.

Beyond daily collaboration in the XD studio, Grace and her friends take midday breaks to play ping pong and they attend fitness classes after work. You can always find the team sitting together, front and center, at our monthly, company-wide Fireside Chats.

The most compelling illustration of how meaningful their friendships are: the trip almost half of the team took together to attend Grace’s wedding… in France.

“Several of my team members booked their flights before I even booked mine,” shares Grace. “That was just reassurance that these are friends I’m going to have for a long time.”

Looking forward to celebrating his friend and teammate in France, Art Director Gabe Macias says, “I love that I get to work alongside one of my favorite people every day. Grace has such an impact on the people she meets and it shows when most of our team is traveling halfway across the world to see her marry the love of her life.”

Grace’s story is a testament to why Credera has monthly happy hours, ping pong tournaments, company trips, Night at the Ballpark, and other team-building events. These friendships yield higher employee satisfaction, improve engagement, and encourage perseverance through challenging projects.

Needless to say, we will continue to value building friendships at Credera.

LIFE AT CREDERA

We’re “open-sourcing” the Credera culture in a series called Life at Credera. We are sharing an authentic perspective on what we are learning and where we are growing. We are talking about friendships and fungrowth, higher purpose, talent and character, leadership, and communication.

We hope this series is a helpful resource on the continuous pursuit of a great culture. And we hope the results are encouraging to our company, employees, clients, and friends.
