Q&A With Ellen Gates
What led to your decision to join Credera originally?
To be honest, the people convinced me first. The opportunity to work with so many smart, passionate, genuine people — people who care about the work, their clients, and each other in equal measure — seemed too good to pass up.
How would you describe your approach to leadership?
A good leader will give you a clear picture of where you are going, what success looks like, and the space to do great work: removing barriers, thinking through problems, and navigating challenges. My job as a leader is to rally the team around a vision and a purpose, and coach them to success. Someone told me once that great leaders basically work themselves out of a job: it’s a great sign if your team is strong enough that they don’t need you anymore!
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
There are too many to count. Leadership can take many different forms, and you don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to be a leader. Most importantly, leadership it isn’t about telling other people what to do, or by doing everything yourself. The best habit I picked up was to ask people what they think, rather than jumping in with my own suggestions.
What are you most excited about now that you’re part of the Credera team?
Where do I start? There is so much opportunity to lead work that transforms our clients’ businesses, all while making a difference for the people who work at Credera, too. I’m super excited about the people. They have not disappointed!
