Vikalp is a partner at Credera in our Dallas office leading MarTech enablement and developing Credera's global delivery capabilities. He is a subject matter expert on customer data platform (CDP) implementations, data architecture and pipelines, and Credera’s marketing analytics platform service offering. Throughout his Credera career, Vikalp has worked with numerous clients in retail, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and financial services. He has more than 15 years of technology consulting experience, with a focus on enterprise architecture, MarTech, and custom integrations.
Vikalp graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and economics and earned a master’s degree in computing from Marquette University. Outside of the office, Vikalp loves to play racquet sports (tennis, squash, badminton, and table tennis), travel, read, and spend time with his wife, Meeta, and two kids, Vihaan and Raika.
We sat down with Vikalp to learn more about his journey to becoming a partner at Credera:
Q&A With Vikalp Jain:
What is and has been your focus during your time at Credera?
I am a technologist by training and trade, and I started my Credera career as a senior consultant in the Java Practice. I was an individual contributor on several client projects during the first three years of my Credera tenure. I then moved into leading custom application development projects and grew into a client delivery leader role.
Around 2014, I changed paths and moved into a practice leader role for one of our technology practices. While I loved the people development aspect of my role, I missed being able to dedicate more time to client delivery. As we merged technology practices in 2018, I changed my focus area once again and got involved with our MarTech service offering, primarily focused on technology enablement, and truly loved every aspect of it.
My current focus continues to be MarTech, and more specifically, CDP implementation, our marketing analytics platform, and data architecture and pipelines. I am also helping build out our global delivery capabilities in India.
What were you doing before you joined Credera? What led to your decision to join Credera originally?
I started my career working as a software engineer for Johnson Controls in Milwaukee. In 2006, my wife found a really great career opportunity in the Dallas area and we decided to move.
As we were prepping for our move to Texas, I ran into a job posting for a Java developer that piqued my interest. As I dug in to learn more, what really convinced me to join Credera was the vision that Justin Bell and other leaders at the time had for growing the firm. I remember telling myself, "I am going to give it three months." Those three months turned into three years, and that turned into 15, and the rest is history!
How would you describe your approach to leadership?
Collaborative. I want everyone on the client and Credera teams to be a part of the solution but also feel comfortable disagreeing with me. The phrase "idea meritocracy," coined by author and hedge fund manager Ray Dalio, really resonates with me and is a fundamental aspect of my leadership style.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
Be likable! People like to do business with people they like and the best way to be likable is to work with integrity and humility.
What are you most excited about now that you’re part of the Credera partner team?
I am most excited about building our global delivery capabilities, from Latin America to India, and working with the broader Credera network in serving our amazing clients.
