The Credera Brief | Cloud Value Governance

In our latest edition of The Credera Brief video series, Jeff Townes, partner of Cloud Solutions and Alliances at Credera, shares a common issue many organizations face on their cloud adoption journey and four potential solutions.

The Cloud Adoption Paradox

As organizations begin successfully implementing cloud solutions, they often encounter a paradox: cloud spending grows, while visibility into how these solutions align with business values wanes. As a company’s cloud portfolio increases, so does the difficulty to predict and measure the expected value and cost of each new cloud application. We’ve seen this paradox fuel anxiety with clients, slowing future cloud investment and adoption.

Addressing these cost and value concerns head-on is imperative to restore the momentum to an organization’s cloud adoption journey.

At Credera, we utilize four strategies to increase cloud value, better manage costs, and keep our clients’ momentum going:

Four Strategies to Strengthen Your Cloud Adoption Journey:

1. Forecast the Expected Benefits of Cloud Adoption

The cloud can create personalized customer experiences, mine data for insights, and bring new digital products online with global scale and reach. Forecast these revenue growth and cost savings benefits before making investment decisions, then frequently measure whether you’re achieving the expected results.

2. Take a Fresh Look at Modeling Cloud Costs

Data centers require a complex mix of infrastructure, software, labor, space, power, and cooling to stay online. Set aside simplistic models that compare hourly rates and account for all costs, commitment-based savings, and even labor efficiencies as the basis for cloud investment decisions.

3. Deploy New Tools to Optimize Cloud Costs

Some tools suggest engineering improvements and others recommend options to lower bills with commitment-based discounts. A few tools will even automate savings with technology that applies these improvements continuously. Consider investigating the right ones for your organization.

4. Evolve the Organization to Reduce Inefficiency

Digital transformation requires us to experiment with new processes, policies, and team structures without creating real or perceived friction in the cloud adoption process. Needs change at each stage of the journey, so lead with a collective willingness and a commitment of resources to navigate this change with flexibility.

Together, these four strategies will link cloud adoption to business goals, improve governance, and accelerate digital transformation across the organization.
