Meet Izzy Harris

We asked Engineer Izzy Harris why she chose to join Credera to further her engineering career.

What attracted you to Credera?

I liked the idea of working for a smaller but growing firm full of sociable and friendly people and with a ‘family-feel’ culture. At the time, I thought it seemed an exciting time to join as the Engineering team was very new and I enjoy working in a changing environment. The learning opportunities and the chance to work with technologies that I had little previous exposure to also really appealed to me. I was aware that a number of Credera employees had deep expertise in cloud technologies, so I was excited to work alongside people who had a lot of knowledge in this area.

What’s an average day at Credera for you?

Most of my time is spent working on client projects, delivering user stories, and adding new features to the codebase. I’ve also done some work on an internal project for a product that the company is developing itself. When I’m not coding, I’m usually on calls with colleagues and other team members to discuss the progress of the project we’re working on, future plans and project aims, and even sometimes just to catch up and talk about our days!

What’s your favourite thing about working for Credera?

I love the variety of the projects and the technologies that I get to work with. As a consultancy, we work with a broad range of clients, meaning no two projects are ever the same. This variety also means that Credera is a great place to learn and develop your skills, and the firm encourages everyone to set their own personal development goals and put time aside every week to work towards them. It’s also widely spoken about at Credera, but the people here are great! Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming, which made my experience of joining the company remotely really easy. There are also plenty of social activities to get involved in, from regular team catch ups to social clubs; we even had an evening of candle making!

What’s your favourite benefit that we offer?

Credera offers great opportunities for personal and professional development, including a generous training budget and the opportunity to allocate time to working towards a personal development goal. I am currently taking a cloud computing course and chose to get involved with an internal project because the technology stack really interested me.

How has Credera helped you grow in your professional career?

I’m grateful to Credera for allowing me the time and budget to work towards a cloud qualification – something that I’m particularly interested in but haven’t had the opportunity to pursue before. I’ve also learned a lot working on both internal and external projects, and I work with great engineers who are always happy to share their knowledge and experience.

What advice would you give recent hires?

Try to meet as many people as you can and get involved with the social stuff. Everyone here is really friendly and will make you feel at home right away. You should also think about your personal development goals and what you would like to focus on, as it’s a rare opportunity to get both the freedom and resources to focus on your own development.
