Situation

This oilfield services innovator has focused on the top oil and gas companies in the United States for decades.  This organization was in need of a solution that would allow them to centrally manage and optimize numerous concurrent oilfield projects involving geographically distributed team members who are often in disconnect and isolated locations.  The primary objective was to revolutionize the data intensive oil and gas industry through sophisticated data management tools that facilitate data capture and presentation to project managers, executives, and ultimately, customers.

  • Field Application
    • An application run by field personnel and capable of running in both connected and disconnected modes with advanced synchronization capability
    • Project, site, and well specific workflows creating a more efficient field operation
    • Built Using Windows Presentation Foundation and SQL Server Compact Edition for enhanced usability and mobility
  • Central Management Interface and Data Repository
    • Enabled Project Managers to manage activities, deliverables, oil field data, and content publishing
    • Enabled executives to obtain a better view of operations at a macro and micro level
    • Consolidated database utilizing SQL Server 2005 allowed for company wide reporting and data mining leading to increased business intelligence and more effective decision making
    • Built using Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 and SQL Server 2005 (SSRS and SSAS)
  • Customer Facing Extranet
    • Allowed customers to view realtime project information from data gathered in the field
    • Built using Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0
    • Utilized SQL Server Analysis Services and SQL Server Reporting Services to allow customer to run ad-hoc queries on project data using Report Builder

Result

Project methodologies and standards were made readily available to field workers, thus increasing efficiency and standardization while improving overall project management
Executives and upper management gained greater visibility into operational status through Business Intelligence
An addition revenue stream was created by providing a unique data service, custom extranets and detailed project information via the web, thus differentiating them from competitors
